Description;

An antique treen, sycamore bottle shaped box with a screw top, and apothecaries labeled glass bottle with stopper inside. Made in Berne, Switzerland ca. 1880-1900, and was once part of a apothecaries inventory.

This treen bottle holder, was designed for security reasons. Some medicinal products and their derivatives, needed to be kept in the dark, or require extra protection from being damaged. This is a good example of the 19th centuries attempts at providing attractive, functional solutions for “packaging”.

A rather attractive and nicely patinated object. It could equally find some useful service as a bottle container for balsamic vinegar in the kitchen, or as on display object in the bar. One could then ask a guest, with some authentic self confidence, “Well, what’s your poison going to be”?

Condition; A nicely honey colored article, it has signs of use which of course is to be expected, but no signs of negative maltreatment, or any cracks, splits etc. It would appear however, to have been frequently handled by a person or persons; who were fond of gold rings, bracelets, or bangles and beads.
