A factotums (sic; trading post manager) organizer & writing slope made in the Orient; Penang Malaysia in ca. 1800- 1820. A very high quality 19th century antique forerunner of the present laptop. A fully fitted interior for getting organized, while having a demanding business lifestyle. A gilt and green tooled leather inside finish tells of a bespoke built unit, for maximum efficiency. This object is a rather ingenious, portable and collapsible piece of administrative equipment. It is superbly finished, brass bound with flush fitting handles for ease of carriage. This object is finished in exotic woods such as Amboyna, Burr Paduk and mahogany.
Completed in the tradition of all bespoke campaign furniture makers, it is also a multi – tasking forum. It has five drawers and a mirrored compartment. Furthermore, it fold out and in addition it also pops up - via a hidden spring mechanism. Moreover, it is collapsible and has hidden, secret compartments inside. A very satisfying, and unusual piece of writing equipment indeed. In short, combined with an electronic laptop one has the ideal designer work station with organized space for pens, notes, correspondence, digital camera, photographs etc.
Condition; The condition is excellent, with no constructive faults or restorations. Everything slides, opens, turns and fits snugly. Indeed, this astounding piece of furniture is tuned to the finest details. Such an object besides being very attractive and esthetically pleasing, is also very functional in use, even today.
