Description;

An antique Austrian biscuit barrel with 6 sides, made in ca. 1880-1900.

This is a rather modern looking piece of kitchenalia, which is made of glass iridescent green with a metallic colored banding is very nicely is finished with silver plated mounts.

This particular item show’s all of the artistic qualities of the very high craftsmanship, during the Art Nouveau period. Especially great importance was the pushing the boundaries of technical excellence even further, which is a typical trade mark of the of the Austrian secessionist movement. It has some echoes, of what the Loetz designers were achieving, by pushing the artistic borders of both home and hotel furnishings, towards a wider and much more elegant level of achievement.

Whether for biscuits, teabags, rice or whatever, it is really a rather attractive piece of glass being both functional and pleasing to the eye. However will need either daylight, or some sort of lighting, to awaken both the colors and the stylish shape.

Condition; The condition is good, and rather surprisingly the silver plating on the collar, lid and handle, have all stood the test of time very well indeed.
